Police suspected of attacking illegal immigrant

A COURT is investigating how a Moroccan immigrant was left wheelchair-bound after being held in police custody.

The 30-year-old was arrested in Guadalajara, central Spain, where he was residing illegally despite a deportation order pending against him since May last year.

He was taken to the police station and sustained severe injuries which have left him paraplegic. The police claim he harmed himself, however, the Moroccan Immigrants Group and political party UPyD believe he may have been attacked, and say he was “abandoned” at a hospital.

The Guadalajara Government Sub-Delegate, Juan Pablo Sanchez, suggested he could have injured himself to avoid deportation.

The police have eye-witnesses who support their version, however, the report was carried out within the station, so there are suspicions that the officers may be covering for each other.
