Bogus crimes simulated in Alicante

National Police have detained two people accused of simulating various crimes and attempting to defraud insurance companies.

The defendants were arrested in Alicante, where in the first instance the 29-year old “victim” presented at the Police Station, reporting that he had been robbed and that the culprits had escaped with his mobile phone and a gold chain. He was not able to give any details to help identify any of his attackers.

The Police eventually recovered the phone in the changing room of a gym, and calculating that the events did not occur as reported. It materialized that the man had intended to defraud his insurance company for a payment of 600 euros.

Days later, a 31-year old woman reported that she had been the victim of a violent robbery, when the thief had allegedly escaped with 660 euros in cash, a mobile phone and digital camera. Suspicious of the story, police carried out a thorough investigation, discovering that her claims were also completely fictitious.
