Benidorm – THE Police have dismantled a drugs trafficking gang in Alicante Province with the arrest of 20 people. The latest string of arrests took place in Benidorm. In this last phase of the operation, thirteen people were taken into for questioning. Four of the alleged traffickers held are of Colombian origin; two from Spain, two from the Dominican Republic and two from Morocco.
During the course of searches carried out at eight properties 500 grams of cocaine were seized, along with a handgun and 11,000 euros in cash. Among the items recovered were accounting records thought to be linked to the illicit activity.
The investigation began at the beginning of 2010 leading to the initial arrest of three Colombian people in Alicante and Elche who were suspected of drugs trafficking activities in Elche, Benidorm and Villajoyosa. Among items seized during these arrests was a quantity of cocaine equivalent to 1,000 ‘hits’.
Following the three arrests, another two suspected members of the trafficking gang – of Venezuelan origin – were taken into custody in Benidorm. In addition to 500 hits of cocaine, officers discovered documentation related to the trafficking operation.
A few weeks later, the remaining two – a Spaniard and Colombian – were arrested in Benidorm.
